The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Chinonso Obasi, as its Deputy National Youth Leader. The appointment was officially announced in a statement released on Thursday and is seen as part of the party’s broader strategy to deepen youth engagement in its political structure.

According to iReporter Online, Obasi, widely recognized for his work in youth advocacy and development, brings years of leadership experience to the role. His appointment comes shortly after a major leadership transition in the ADC, which saw Senator David Mark assume the position of National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola named Secretary General during the National Executive Council meeting held in Abuja on July 28, 2025.

Obasi has held several key leadership positions in student and youth organizations, including serving as the National President of NANS, South-South and Southeast Coordinator of the student body, as well as Student Union President. He was also the inaugural President of the Nigerian Youth Union and participated in the 2014 National Conference as a representative of Nigerian students.

Born on April 27, 1987, and a native of Ebonyi State, Obasi is a mechanical engineer by profession, holding a Master’s degree in the discipline. He is married to Hannah Chinonso, and the couple has three children.

The statement noted that Obasi previously served on the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 general elections. His background in youth mobilization, combined with his professional and political experience, is expected to be instrumental in advancing the party’s youth-centered agenda.
