Adeleke Acts To Protect Osun, Calls Security Council Meeting Over Bandit Threats

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has taken fresh steps to bolster security across the state as concerns grow over potential bandit activity. According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the governor convened a high-level meeting of the State Security Council to assess current threats and outline new security strategies aimed at safeguarding residents and property.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, indicated that the meeting—attended by all service commanders—was chaired by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi. The gathering produced extensive resolutions focused on preventing external infiltration and curbing local criminal activities.

The Deputy Governor, speaking on behalf of Governor Adeleke, commended the security chiefs for their ongoing efforts and expressed confidence that the strengthened security framework would further enhance safety and stability in Osun State. The council also appealed to residents to maintain close collaboration with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements or incidents within their communities.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke has raised alarm over increasing political violence in parts of the state, directing the Commissioner of Police to take decisive action against politically motivated attacks, particularly the recent killings recorded in Ijeshaland. He urged political actors to respect the electoral process and shun acts of thuggery.

The governor emphasized that political engagement must prioritize the will of the people, stressing that violence has no place in democratic competition. He called for enhanced policing of volatile areas to prevent further loss of life.

In another development, the state government has finalized plans to introduce mobile courts that will be manned by eight magistrates. This initiative, formed through collaboration between the executive and judiciary, aims to handle overnight criminal cases, remand hearings, and other urgent judicial processes to ease congestion in detention facilities.

The move follows a letter from the governor’s legal adviser, Nurudeen Kareem Esq., urging the Chief Judge of Osun State to authorize the establishment of the mobile courts. Governor Adeleke noted that the decision was driven by the need to prevent human rights violations, curb security risks associated with overcrowded cells, and ensure the continuity of essential justice procedures even as the state works to resolve the ongoing judicial workers’ strike.
