Adeleke Clinches Second Term As INEC Declares Him Winner Of Osun Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The result gave the incumbent a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

According to Ireporter Online, Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11 local governments. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third in the overall contest.

The election was held across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, with voters turning out to elect the governor who will lead the state for the next four years.

Results announced from several local government areas showed a closely contested election between Adeleke and Oyebamiji. Adeleke recorded notable victories in areas including Ede North, Ede South, Iwo, Osogbo, Ife East, Ife Central, Ife North, Ife South and Aiyedire, among others.

Oyebamiji, on the other hand, secured victories in several areas, including Irewole, Ila, Boripe, Ilesa East, Ifedayo, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Obokun and Irepodun.

In Ede North, Adeleke recorded 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, while in Osogbo, the Accord candidate polled 36,480 votes compared with the APC candidate’s 30,474 votes.

In Iwo, Adeleke secured 27,085 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who obtained 19,660 votes. Similarly, in Ife East, the incumbent received 27,201 votes against the APC candidate’s 18,600 votes.

Oyebamiji recorded a strong performance in Irewole, where he polled 29,972 votes to defeat Adeleke, who secured 10,934 votes. He also won Ilesa East with 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280 votes.

The declaration brings an end to the voting and collation process following a keenly contested election that witnessed high voter turnout, allegations of irregularities and pockets of violence in some parts of the state.

With the final declaration by INEC, Adeleke is set to continue as governor of Osun State for another term, having secured the highest number of votes cast in the election.
