AFCON: Super Eagles Pay Tribute To Fans Who Passed Away During South Africa Match

Nigeria secured a spot in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after prevailing over Bafana Bafana in a penalty shootout.

However, the intensity and emotions of the match seemed to overwhelm some spectators.

At least five individuals have been reported deceased while watching the game.

Among them are Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); Samuel, a corps member serving in Adamawa State; Ayuba Abdullahi, Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete; and Mikail Osundiji from Olomoore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Additionally, it was reported that Osondu Nwoye, a businessman originally from Anambra and based in Cote d’Ivoire, collapsed inside the stadium and later passed away in a hospital.

During their team meeting on Thursday, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa relayed the news to the rest of the squad.

Musa led a moment of silence, offering prayers for the departed souls, as the team stood in reverence.
