The charges, initially brought against Gambaryan by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), were suddenly withdrawn by the Bola Tinubu-led administration. During a court session on Wednesday, the EFCC prosecutor stated, “The government has reviewed the case, considering Mr. Gambaryan’s position as an employee of Binance Holdings Limited and the international and diplomatic implications. As such, the state seeks to discontinue the case against him.”

Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen, was released from Kuje prison on Wednesday night and has now returned to his family in the U.S.

In a statement on behalf of the family, Tigran’s wife, Yuki Gambaryan, expressed her relief: “It is a huge relief that this day has finally come. The past eight months have been a nightmare. I wish it hadn’t taken so long or that his health hadn’t declined, but we can now focus on healing as a family.”

She further thanked the U.S. government and supporters for their help: “There were moments I feared this day would never come, but Tigran’s supporters gave me hope and strength.”

The family will now focus on Tigran’s recovery, with their children eagerly awaiting their father’s return.
