The arrest followed protests from stranded passengers who accused certain NRC officials of engaging in ticket racketeering.

In response to the incident, Olusegun, in an official post on his handle, urged Nigerians to continue reporting cases of NRC officials involved in ticket racketeering.

He assured the public that the federal government is actively tracking these individuals and taking measures to ensure the apprehension of these criminal elements.

The Federal Government reported that approximately 163,878 Nigerians have benefited from the transportation rebate introduced in December 2023.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, disclosed this information in a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Kehinde Bamigbetan.

The government had announced free train transportation and a 50 percent subsidy on transport fares for passengers on 30 routes starting from December 19. Alake, who also chairs the Committee overseeing the end-of-the-year transportation subsidy program, stated that between December 21 and 31, 2023, the NRC transported 71,000 passengers.

Additionally, buses affiliated with the Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria (ALBON) transported 77,122 travelers, and 652 bus trips originating from Oshodi Interchange in Lagos carried 15,766 passengers.

The committee implemented remedial measures by introducing two more routes and collaborating with other stakeholders such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), state-owned transport companies, and the Private Transport Operators Association (PTONA).
