Ajaka Bows To Pressure, Apologises To Yahaya Bello, Calls For Peace
Former Kogi State governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka, has issued a public apology to former Governor Yahaya Bello, calling for reconciliation and a renewed commitment to unity and development in the state.
According to credible media reports, Ajaka, who contested the November 2023 governorship election under the Social Democratic Party, made the appeal in a statement released on Monday. He noted that the political tensions that trailed the election led to deep divisions and strained relationships, particularly between himself and the former governor.
Ajaka explained that the differences between him and Bello were rooted in political conviction and passion rather than personal hostility. He acknowledged that the intense nature of the contest contributed to misunderstandings, adding that he is now committed to fostering peace. He expressed regret over any actions or remarks that may have caused offence, offering a sincere apology in the spirit of reconciliation.
Emphasising the need to move forward, Ajaka said he has chosen to let go of grievances and focus on healing, stressing that unity is essential for the state’s progress. He also extended appreciation to his supporters, including elders, youths and political allies, for their steadfast backing during the election period.
The former candidate paid tribute to individuals who lost their lives during the electioneering process, describing their sacrifices as significant and deserving of honour. He urged political stakeholders and residents to prioritise peace and stability above personal ambitions, noting that the collective advancement of Kogi State should take precedence over political differences.
