Akpabio Leads Senate Delegation to Daura, Pays Tribute to Buhari’s Enduring Legacy

Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday led a powerful delegation from the National Assembly to Daura, Katsina State, to condole with Governor Dikko Radda over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Akpabio, who served under Buhari as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, hailed the late statesman as a symbol of integrity and patriotism. He described Buhari as “a man who gave his life in service to Nigeria — first as a military leader and later as a democratically elected president.”

Recounting their journey, Akpabio explained that the delegation had initially attempted to travel on Tuesday, but flight challenges at Katsina airport prevented their landing. “We circled for over two hours before diverting to Abuja,” he said. “But we made it back today because honouring President Buhari is a duty we could not abandon.”

The Senate President also commended Governor Radda’s leadership, emphasizing the historic connection between Akwa Ibom and Katsina States, both created on the same date in 1987. “Development comes not from wealth alone, but from genuine love for the people,” he stated.

In his remarks, Governor Radda expressed deep appreciation for the Senate’s show of solidarity. Reflecting on his personal relationship with Buhari, he said, “Since his retirement, I visited Baba every two to three weeks. He would always remind me to fear God, rule justly, and love our country.” Radda described Buhari as fatherly and reserved, yet deeply inspirational to those who knew him intimately.
