Ali Giwa Takes Over As Force New Media Officer, Appointed By Disu
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa as the Nigeria Police Force’s new Media Officer. According to official sources, the announcement was confirmed on Sunday by former Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin via a post on .

The appointment is part of the newly established New Media Office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, a development aimed at strengthening the Force’s digital communication strategy and enhancing public awareness of police operations.
Giwa brings over 15 years of experience in law enforcement, public order management, cybercrime investigation, and cybersecurity. He currently serves as a cybersecurity specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja.
Throughout his career, Giwa has held multiple positions within the police. He served as Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the Department of Logistics and Supply between September 2023 and December 2024. He has also been the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited, Assistant Police Public Relations Officer at the Obalende Annex in Lagos, and Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command.
In addition, he has carried out operational duties as a crime officer, surveillance officer, and human rights officer across various police formations in Lagos State.
The appointment follows closely on the heels of Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid’s designation as the new Force Public Relations Officer. According to the Force Headquarters, Placid is a seasoned officer with extensive experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.
Placid, born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National Open University of Nigeria.
