Wike Approves 1,659 FCTA Worker Appointments

Nyesom Wike has approved the confirmation of appointments for 1,659 workers within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), marking a major step toward regularising the employment status of staff who had been serving without permanent confirmation.

According to Ireporter Online, the development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. The confirmation followed an examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026, as part of a process to verify and regularise workers within the administration.

Information released by the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, indicated that 2,512 workers were invited to participate in the confirmation exercise. However, only 2,281 staff members eventually appeared for the examination.

Out of those who took part in the test, 1,659 workers have now received confirmation of their appointments. Meanwhile, 224 officers who were expected to attend the exercise failed to show up, prompting concerns among officials that some of the listed names may belong to individuals who do not actually exist in the system.

The commission further noted that several of the workers involved in the process had been serving the FCTA for many years before their appointments were officially confirmed. Some of the affected staff were first employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others joined the administration shortly before Wike assumed office as FCT Minister in August 2023. The exercise formed part of broader efforts by the administration to regularise employment records and strengthen transparency within the FCTA workforce.

In a separate development, Wike cautioned residents of the Federal Capital Territory against allowing politicians to mislead them with empty promises during elections. He made the remark while addressing stakeholders in the Abuja Municipal Area Council during a thank-you visit following the February 21 Area Council elections, where he appreciated residents for supporting candidates aligned with Bola Tinubu.
