Anambra By-Election: Security Tightened As CP Repositions Officers Across State

As the by-election for the Anambra South Senatorial seat and Onitsha North I State constituency draws near, the State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, on Wednesday ordered the reassignment of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to strategic locations across Anambra State.

According to iReporter Online, this move is part of a proactive strategy to reinforce police neutrality and enhance operational efficiency ahead of the elections.

A statement signed by the police spokesman, Superintendent Ikenga Tochukwu, emphasized that the deployment aims to ensure maximum security before, during, and after the polls.

According to iReporter Online, the Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process, as well as the safety of voters, election officials, and electoral materials.

“The Commissioner stressed that all officers assigned to election duties must perform with the highest level of professionalism, impartiality, and adherence to the rule of law.

Any breach of the Police Code of Conduct or actions undermining a peaceful election will attract strict disciplinary measures,” the statement said.

According to iReporter Online, the command also urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to cooperate with security agencies and avoid actions that could incite violence, while encouraging voters to exercise their civic rights freely and without intimidation.

The Nigeria Police Force affirmed its resolute commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for free, fair, and credible elections across Anambra State.
