According to Ireporter Online, Anthony Joshua is facing a demanding physical challenge as he races to cut a substantial amount of weight ahead of his upcoming clash with Jake Paul scheduled for 19 December in Miami.

The agreement for the bout was reportedly concluded earlier this month, with both fighters set to compete over eight three-minute rounds using 10-ounce gloves. However, the most unexpected element of the contract is a strict weight cap imposed on Joshua. The 36-year-old former heavyweight champion has been instructed to enter the ring at no more than 245 pounds, despite currently weighing around 265 pounds. This means he must shed roughly 20 pounds in less than three weeks to meet the required limit.

The condition surprised many observers, as Joshua has never been known to fight under such restrictions and typically maintains a natural heavyweight frame.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, explained the situation during an interview on BBC 5 Live. He disclosed that Joshua’s heavy training weight had prompted discussions about adjusting the terms. Hearn added that while he rejected proposals for less conventional fight conditions, the weight demand was tied to the perceived size disparity between Joshua and Paul. According to him, Paul’s camp insisted that the reduction was necessary to ensure a more balanced contest.

Despite the challenge, Joshua has reportedly embraced the terms. Ireporter Online adds that the fight purse is valued at an estimated £140 million, with both fighters expected to earn up to £70 million each. Joshua has also enlisted former opponent Oleksandr Usyk to assist with his preparation, signalling his determination to enter the bout in peak condition.

Both men came face-to-face in Miami following the announcement, revealing a clear physical contrast that has further intensified public expectations. Many analysts believe Joshua’s size and experience could make the contest a short one.

Joshua has openly stated that he intends to deliver a decisive performance, stressing that anything less than a clear victory would be unsatisfactory. He vowed to assert his superiority in the ring and expressed confidence in the outcome of the highly anticipated matchup.
