Aviation Fuel Price Slashed By Dangote

According to Ireporter Online, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced a reduction in the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1), cutting the cost from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre. The company said the ₦100 price adjustment is aimed at easing the financial burden on airline operators while ensuring a more stable and reliable supply of aviation fuel across Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its media team, the refinery explained that the revised pricing structure is expected to help reduce procurement costs for domestic carriers at a time when airlines are facing mounting operational pressures. It noted that aviation fuel remains one of the highest cost drivers in airline operations, making price stability crucial to sustaining flight services and maintaining industry viability.

The company further stated that the intervention is designed to strengthen efficiency within the aviation sector by improving access to Jet A1 and cushioning the effects of fuel price volatility. It added that the latest reduction could also contribute to moderating airfares by lowering operational expenses for airlines.

Alongside the price cut, the refinery introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility for marketers and airline operators, backed by bank guarantees. According to the company, the initiative is intended to provide greater financial flexibility within the aviation fuel supply chain and support smoother operations for industry stakeholders.

The refinery also disclosed a shift from a dollar-denominated pricing model to a naira-based structure, a move it said would reduce exposure to foreign exchange fluctuations and provide more predictable pricing for local buyers. Airline operators have long raised concerns that dollar-linked fuel pricing contributes significantly to rising operational costs and fare increases.

Industry stakeholders have continued to express concern over the persistent rise in Jet A1 prices, warning that it places pressure on airline sustainability, route planning, and ticket affordability. Fuel remains one of the largest components of airline expenditure, and fluctuations in price often have immediate operational impacts.

The Dangote refinery said its latest measures are part of broader efforts to support the aviation industry and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply nationwide.
