According to IReporter Online, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has stated that President Bola Tinubu would make a better presidential option than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Lawal made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, where he argued that, despite the current challenges under Tinubu’s administration, a comparative assessment placed him above Atiku in terms of leadership potential. He further described the choice between both politicians as one between “a lesser evil,” insisting that Tinubu’s presidency would still be preferable to what Atiku might bring.

He said, “I said it that if it must be, therefore, a choice between Atiku and Tinubu, I believe that Bola Tinubu’s presidency, as bad as it is now on a comparative level, Tinubu would be an excellent President compared to what Atiku would plunge us into. When you are between the devil and the devil and you must go somewhere, what you therefore do is look for a lesser devil.”

In a related development, Lawal also weighed in on the internal dynamics of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race, asserting that former presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on the same programme, he argued that Atiku’s political experience could not be compared with Hayatu-Deen’s professional background and leadership credentials, particularly his role as former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

Lawal stated, “Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku. They can’t even be in the same boat. They are not on the same sea.”

Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar emerged winner of the ADC presidential primary, securing the party’s ticket ahead of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who came second, while Hayatu-Deen finished third.
