Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following the circulation of a viral image that appeared to show him dozing during an opposition summit in Ibadan, Ibadan. According to reports, the meeting, held on Saturday, brought together several prominent opposition figures as part of efforts to build a united political front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Those present at the gathering reportedly included former Senate President David Mark, ex-Minister of Information Jerry Gana, activist Aisha Yesufu, political economist Pat Utomi, and former Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung. Others in attendance were former governors such as Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Rotimi Amaechi, and Babangida Aliyu, among others.

In reaction, Basiru shared the image via his social media platform, suggesting that the opposition leader appeared to have fallen asleep during the high-level meeting. He accompanied the post with a remark implying that Atiku slept through what he described as a critical opposition gathering. The APC chieftain also referenced the image while responding to claims online that the ruling party was unsettled by moves among opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate.

The Ibadan meeting is understood to be part of ongoing consultations among opposition stakeholders seeking to strengthen collaboration and present a formidable challenge to the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
