‘Black Man Has Contributed Nothing But Wickedness’ – Peter Obi Accuses Nigerian Leaders Of Wasting Colonial Resources

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and ex-Governor of Anambra State, has criticized Nigerian leaders for squandering the resources inherited from colonial rule. In a recent interview with Why Not Afrika, Obi expressed his disappointment with the management of Nigeria’s resources since independence, labeling the outcome as “wickedness.”

Obi highlighted the once-thriving economic activity around the Onitsha area of River Niger, which was developed under colonial rule. He lamented that these developments have been neglected and allowed to decay. He emphasized that the River Niger, if utilized like Egypt’s River Nile, could significantly enhance Nigeria’s logistics and transportation systems.

“The River Niger is a wasted resource,” Obi stated, drawing a comparison to the Nile’s contribution to Egypt. He criticized the failure of Nigerian leaders to maintain and utilize these resources effectively, questioning the true value of independence under such circumstances.

Obi’s remarks underscore his belief that the post-colonial management of resources has been marked by neglect and mismanagement, which he attributes to a lack of genuine concern for national progress.
