Who Blinks First? Will Obaseki Ever Appoint Political Appointees As Things  Finally Fall Apart With PDP?(must read)

In local parlance elders will say breeze don blow fowl yansh don open, that is to say, water don pass garri.

Finally, the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has blown the lid off the fracas between the party and the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.

The funny game playing out is that the party is ready to go the whole length in preserving the soul and structure of their party. To them, to hell with Obaseki.

My friend, Erigga would say “pikin wey dey find party rice no suppose dey fear dance.”

The PDP has decided to cane their line without any single compensation, benefit, payment or whatsoever from Obaseki, according to them they have conceded enough and are not ready to concede a penny or an inch further.

What are the boiling issues?

Two things are involved here, political appointments and party executive structure.

From the cries of the PDP, Obaseki from day one breached the agreement with the party by nominating Philip Shaibu as his running mate.

Then on swearing-in, Obaseki continued the deception by appointing Barr Osarodion Ogie as the Secretary to the State Government without the input of the PDP.

Since then the PDP has been observing Obaseki with GOAT EYES, they have viewed each of his moves with trickery.

Now at the just concluded zonal congress that was held in Port Harcourt, Obaseki swept the show by single-handedly taking the two positions zoned to the State Chapter of the party.

Again the legacy PDP(authentic PDP) conceded to the Governor.

Recall the saying “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” the PDP now are sceptical of the calls by Obaseki to dissolve the duly elected State Executive council of the PDP, according to them its a ploy by Obaseki to finally hijack the full leadership structure of the party.

So the party now does not want political patronage from Obaseki but are ready to defend their fundamental rights which happen(s) to be their leadership positions in the PDP.

They have clearly told Obaseki to eat his ELephant and leave them alone with their chicken to eat in peace. “We don’t need your appointments but please stay clear of our offices”.

They have sounded the drums of war and seem to have dared Obaseki who from antecedents is not scared to engage in a battle with anyone.

Will the political face-off between Obaseki and the PDP allow the Governor to announce his much-anticipated cabinet? Would the faceoff allow Obaseki to conduct the much-awaited local government council elections?

How would Edo state citizens cope with a renewed political rivalry for relevance? Are they ready to face another bitter round of party quarrel with Obaseki and his political party?

From observations, if care is not taken the PDP may suffer an implosion as Obaseki goes into his battles with sophistry and high-level social media leverage that can damage any fortress.

In this imminent political clash, the PDP can be rightly said to be the underdogs. We earnestly await the outcome of this anticipated conflict.
