clarified that the recent bill passed to establish new chiefdoms was not intended to affect the Lamido’s position.

Speaking to the press, Mahmud explained that those spreading misinformation were unaware of the bill’s actual provisions, which were signed into law by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri last month. He pointed out key sections of the bill, notably Section 17, which establishes the Adamawa State Council of Chiefs, and Section 18, which confirms the Lamido as the chairman of the council.

Mahmud further explained that the new bill introduces zonal traditional councils (North, Central, and Southern), with leadership roles on a rotational basis. “The only change in the bill is the creation of these zonal councils, where the chairman’s role will rotate,” he said.

He urged the public to ignore the false claims circulating and reassured citizens that the Lamido’s position remains secure.
