Bournemouth Strengthen European Ambitions With Narrow Victory Over Fulham

Antoine Semenyo scored within the opening minute to help Bournemouth revive their European qualification hopes with a hard-fought 1-0 win against fellow contenders Fulham in Monday’s Premier League clash.

Bournemouth nearly extended their lead through Evanilson, who struck the crossbar in the first half. Despite late pressure from Fulham, Andoni Iraola’s side held firm to move up to eighth place, edging ahead of both Fulham and Brighton on goal difference.

Fulham’s best opportunity to level came from Ryan Sessegnon, whose header was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the first half.

Having picked up just two points from a possible 18 since a February 15th victory over Southampton, Bournemouth started strongly, punishing a misplaced pass from Timothy Castagne. Alex Scott led the quick counterattack, and following a defensive error from Robinson, Semenyo cut inside Joachim Andersen and curled home a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

The Cherries continued to pose a threat, with Evanilson hitting the woodwork just 16 minutes in, while Fulham created their share of chances in an end-to-end first half.

In the second half, Iraola introduced Illia Zabarnyi for Marcos Senesi, and Bournemouth came close again when Tyler Adams was denied by Bernd Leno. Fulham boss Marco Silva responded with a triple substitution, bringing on Tom Cairney, Adama Traore, and Raul Jimenez to chase an equaliser.

Kepa made crucial saves from Alex Iwobi and Sasa Lukic as Fulham pushed forward. A late penalty appeal by Bournemouth was dismissed by VAR, which confirmed Leno had touched the ball before Evanilson went down in the area.

After withstanding Fulham’s pressure during seven minutes of stoppage time, Bournemouth secured a much-needed home win — their first at the Vitality Stadium since the 5-0 rout of Nottingham Forest in January — and kept their European dreams alive.
