Dele Momodu Warns: 2027 Will Be A Political Battle Royale Against Tinubu And Wike

Media entrepreneur and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has issued a stern caution to those eyeing the 2027 presidential race, stating that any serious contender must be fully prepared to face the formidable political alliance between President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“Even before Tinubu became president, he was a political powerhouse. Now, with Wike standing beside him, any aspirant must prepare for a fierce battle. 2027 will resemble the World Cup—you’ll need your best team and full arsenal,” Momodu asserted.

Criticism of PDP Governors Over Opposition Coalition

Momodu also expressed disappointment with the PDP Governors’ Forum for distancing themselves from the proposed opposition coalition spearheaded by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai. According to him, this rejection could inadvertently strengthen the APC and the Tinubu-led administration.

“The reality is clear—neither Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, nor any individual candidate can go it alone. There’s a need to replicate what APC did in 2014 by uniting various parties, even if it means drawing members from APC itself,” he noted.

“Only a Bully Understands the Language of a Bully”

Drawing from Nigeria’s political history, Momodu stressed the importance of unity, resilience, and strategic resistance:

“During Obasanjo’s administration, the only reason Lagos survived under Tinubu was because he refused to bow to pressure. In politics, a bully only respects another bully,” he said.

He also lamented what he described as a growing atmosphere of fear among opposition figures:

“People are acting like frightened chickens. There’s panic everywhere—people fear arrests, the EFCC. That’s no way to challenge power.”

A Rallying Call for Political Courage

In his closing remarks, Momodu called on political stakeholders to resist the temptation of defection and embrace unity and courage:

“We admire stories of Mandela and Nigeria’s independence heroes, but forget that real power is never handed out freely. Anyone—governor, senator, or representative—who thinks defection is the way out may find themselves politically irrelevant.”

He urged the opposition to remain steadfast and strategic if they intend to mount a credible challenge in 2027.

“Power must be earned with strength and unity, not through fear or betrayal.”
