vision for a prosperous year ahead.

In a detailed post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 6, the Media Centre outlined the reforms that are expected to take effect soon. The government is focused on improving critical sectors, though concerns remain over the removal of the petrol subsidy and its impact on everyday Nigerians. President Tinubu, however, recently reiterated that the subsidy removal was essential to the country’s survival, particularly during a visit to Enugu.

As the country prepares for these new initiatives, here are the top ten policies to watch for in 2025:

1. The National Youth Confab
Set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, the National Youth Confab will focus on enhancing the relationship between Nigeria’s youth and its leadership. It demonstrates the administration’s commitment to youth inclusion and empowerment as agents of national development.

2. National Credit Guarantee Company
Expected to launch by mid-2025, this company will promote access to credit, bolstering critical sectors and helping stimulate economic growth.

3. Tax Reform Bills
The ongoing discussions about tax reform bills in the National Assembly are poised for passage in the coming months, aimed at boosting Nigeria’s tax revenue, curbing poverty, and enhancing the ease of doing business.

4. Consumer Credit Scheme Phase 2
The second phase of the Consumer Credit Scheme will extend its benefits to the general public, beyond the initial phase aimed at assisting civil servants. This initiative will help improve industrialization, reduce corruption, and elevate living standards.

5. Infrastructure Commissioning
Several major infrastructural projects are set for commissioning, including:

  • Key energy projects like the AKK gas pipeline and 375MW Egbema Power Station

6. Special Agro-Processing Zones/Green Imperative
This initiative, in collaboration with the African Development Bank, will boost food production through large farming clusters across the country. The Green Imperative aims to provide mechanized farming services to grassroots farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity.

7. Local Government Autonomy Implementation
In line with the Supreme Court’s judgment, full implementation of local government autonomy will give direct access to federal allocations, reducing interference from state governments and improving governance at the grassroots.

8. National Livestock Program
The new Ministry of Livestock will launch a National Livestock Program aimed at reducing farmer-herder conflicts and promoting the economic growth of Nigeria’s livestock sector.

9. National Identification Card – AFRIGO
The AFRIGO card, introduced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), will provide payment solutions, enhance financial inclusion, and restore confidence in the country’s identification system.

10. Renewed Hope Creative Villages
Plans are in place to create creative hubs across Nigeria, known as “Renewed Hope Creative Villages,” aimed at fostering the arts, preserving historical sites, and contributing to the country’s economic growth by creating thousands of jobs.
