BREAKING: Ajaero Is Pursuing Labour Party’s Interest In Imo – Uzodimma ‘Strips NLC President Nak3d’ On Live TV

“Joe Ajaero is pursuing his personal interest,” the governor said on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.

“He (Ajaero) has said times with number that he is a member of Labour Party (LP). He has a candidate in the election of Imo State. So, he is driving whatever programme that will give advantage to Labour Party in Imo State.”

In response to the assault on Ajaero, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have mandated the shutdown of essential services in Imo as a form of protest and declared a nationwide strike effective from November 14, 2023.

Aviation unions in Nigeria have instructed their workers to cease services for all public and private Owerri flights (both inbound and outbound) starting from midnight. The unions have stated that the strike will persist indefinitely until further directives from the NLC and the TUC.

On Thursday, labor activities disrupted air travel at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as part of their picketing efforts.

During an interview on Channels Television’s program on Thursday, Governor Uzodimma expressed his lack of understanding regarding why the NLC leader has adopted a hostile stance toward his government. However, he expressed a willingness to engage with the labor union at a future date.

“It’s surprising that an NLC president from Imo State will be hostile to my government,” he said.

Contrary to assertions made by the NLC, Governor Uzodimma clarified that his administration successfully addressed salary arrears that existed prior to his tenure. He pointed out that certain irregularities, such as the presence of ghost workers and instances of double salary payments, were uncovered and rectified.

It is noteworthy that gubernatorial elections are scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states. In Imo, Governor Uzodimma is vying for re-election, facing competition from 17 other candidates, including Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Achonu Nneji of the Labour Party (LP), and Jack Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA).
