Chinese President Xi Jinping, representing the most powerful economy within the group, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating that it marks a new starting point for BRICS cooperation, revitalizing the cooperative mechanism and contributing to global peace and development.
Leaders from the newly admitted countries, including Ethiopia, Iran, Egypt, and the UAE, expressed their readiness to work with the BRICS group. However, Saudi Arabia’s response was less definitive, with their Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan indicating that Riyadh is awaiting further details before making a decision.
This expansion comes after the approval of criteria for entry, paving the way for future enlargement of the group that already represents a diverse range of economies and political systems. The BRICS group has been positioning itself as an alternative to the Western-led global order, advocating for a more inclusive and fair international financial architecture.
