In the resignation letter, Okupe expresses gratitude for the platform provided by the Labour Party and its executives, which allowed him, Peter Obi, and others to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections. Despite the party’s support, the electoral loss has prompted Okupe to seek an exit due to ideological conflicts.
The letter outlines Okupe’s lifelong adherence to rightist and Liberal Democrat principles, in contrast to the Labour Party’s left-of-center ideology. Acknowledging the ideological misalignment, Okupe deems it necessary to leave the party to pursue his political activities with liberalism, sincerity, and freedom.
He extends appreciation to the party leadership, particularly the President, for their cordiality and respect during his tenure as the Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization. Okupe wishes the Labour Party success in its future endeavors and concludes with well-wishes for the party and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
