Breaking: Edo State Government Raises-Alarm Over Bandit And Terrorist-Activities (Details)
The Edo State Government has raised concerns about the alleged activities of bandits and terrorists in parts of the state. Governor Godwin Obaseki sounded the alarm during a meeting with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, and top security chiefs at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Obaseki highlighted the serious issues of arms trafficking and nefarious activities facilitated through the Ovia River. He stated, “We have a few challenges like the one that relates to the maritime border, particularly the Ovia River axis where we have been having running battles with bandits and terrorists in the last few months. People are using the Ovia River to bring arms and engage in all sorts of nefarious activities. We will need more surveillance in that axis and your support.”
He emphasized the need for increased security to ensure the successful development of the Benin River Port and the safety of partners working in the area. Obaseki also expressed gratitude to the security forces for ensuring the safety of the Benin Airport, which has seen a significant increase in flights.
The governor reiterated the importance of peace and security for the development of any society and assured continued partnership and support for security agencies in the state.
In response, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar commended the governor for his developmental efforts, noting the impressive transformation of Edo State. He remarked, “Returning today as the 22nd Chief of Air Staff, I am highly impressed by Benin’s transformation into a modern and vibrant city that still retains its ancient charm that preserves the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom. The new face of Benin reflects your dedication to good governance, visionary leadership, and prioritization of infrastructural development in Edo State.”
He acknowledged the support and cooperation of the Edo State government and its people towards the Air Force’s operations and expressed appreciation for their continued assistance.
