Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the February 25th presidential election, has expressed confidence that his party will emerge victorious in the November 11th governorship election in Imo State.
Speaking at the campaign launch in Owerri, he highlighted LP’s reputation for performance, excellence, and credibility.

Obi pointed to Abia State, which the party governs, as an example of good governance. He praised the positive impact of a competent leader in the state and emphasized that Senator Athan Achonu is the sole gubernatorial candidate of the party in Imo State.
Obi urged the people of Imo State to vote for Senator Achonu, emphasizing the credibility of the process that led to his nomination. He emphasized the importance of adhering to proper procedures.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, who chaired the panel for the primary election that produced Achonu as the LP’s gubernatorial candidate, also encouraged voters to support Achonu. Otti highlighted the party’s track record in governance and its commitment to positive change.
Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, echoed Otti’s sentiments, expressing confidence that the party would form the next government in Imo State. He criticized the failures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that LP aims to change the economic landscape.
Athon Achonu, the LP’s gubernatorial candidate, pledged to address various issues if elected, including conducting local government elections, improving infrastructure, ensuring prompt payment for civil servants and pensioners, and ending insecurity.
He emphasized his commitment to making history as the first physically challenged person to become a governor.
Overall, the LP’s leaders are optimistic about their prospects in the upcoming election, focusing on their party’s values of good governance, performance, and integrity.
