Breaking: Federal-College Of Agriculture Ibadan To Be Upgraded To Federal-University Of Technology: Lawmaker Explains-Motive (Details)
Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), has shed light on the rationale behind his motion to elevate the Federal College of Agriculture in Ibadan to the status of a Federal University of Technology.
Representing the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency, Olajide clarified the purpose of the proposed upgrade in a statement released on Sunday through his Media Aide, Tolu Mustapha.
The bill advocating for the transformation of the College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, into a Federal University of Technology successfully passed its second reading on the floor of the House of Representatives last week.
Olajide underscored that his initiative aims to ensure the delivery of top-tier education in agriculture and allied fields to young graduates nationwide. By granting the institution university status, he believes it will bolster food security and drive economic growth in Nigeria.
“The upgrade will enhance the institution’s capacity to produce high-level manpower in agriculture, technology, and other related fields,” remarked Olajide, emphasizing the pivotal role this transformation will play in advancing agricultural education and training.
He further elaborated, “The bill, which has received widespread support from stakeholders, including the academia, farmers, and other experts in the field of agriculture, will revolutionize agriculture manpower production and training in Nigeria.”
Olajide expressed optimism that once the bill is enacted into law and receives presidential assent, it will mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s agricultural development journey, leading to heightened food security and economic prosperity.
The lawmaker’s initiative underscores a commitment to fostering educational excellence and leveraging technology to drive innovation in critical sectors, aligning with broader national goals of sustainable development and economic diversification.
