According to Ireporter Online, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced a nationwide strike following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday. The industrial action is scheduled to commence at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, with all members across offices, companies, institutions, and agencies instructed to withdraw their services.

The union further directed members stationed in various field locations to down tools starting from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025. PENGASSAN also called for a continuous 24-hour prayer vigil, urging members to seek divine intervention for authorities to compel Dangote and his associates to comply with Nigerian laws.

In its directive, the association emphasized that during the strike period, no form of intervention would be allowed in field operations except in cases where the safety of personnel or assets is threatened, and such exceptions must receive clearance from the National Secretariat.

The statement specifically ordered the suspension of all processes involving the supply of gas and crude oil to the Dangote Refinery, directing International Oil Companies (IOCs) to ramp down production and cut supplies to the facility and its petrochemical arm.

PENGASSAN reiterated that the strike was in protest against the recent dismissal of more than 800 workers at Dangote Refinery for allegedly joining the union. The association stressed that no individual or company should consider itself above the nation’s laws, declaring, “An injury to one is an injury to all.”
