Tinubu’s Minister Reveals What Really HappenedThe Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has refuted claims that the national grid collapsed twice within a 24-hour period, emphasizing that only a trip-off occurred. According to Naija News, the power grid faced another issue on Tuesday while efforts were underway to restore it following an initial problem on Monday evening.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Adelabu explained that what transpired was a line tripping in specific regions of the country. He stated, “There was no grid collapse; it was simply a trip-off. A grid collapse would involve 100% of our grid infrastructure. This was just a line tripping in certain areas; even major centers like Abuja, Lagos, and Ibadan were not affected. The issue was resolved within two hours.”

He added, “Let me emphasize that grid disturbances are a global phenomenon. Electrical connections can experience tripping due to weather or the deterioration of some infrastructure. What is crucial is the response rate to rectify the situation. We responded quickly, and within two hours, everything was back up and running. So, it’s really not a significant issue.”

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that it will investigate the reasons behind the multiple power grid issues experienced on Monday and Tuesday. TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained in a statement that although recovery efforts began immediately, with Azura power station providing the necessary support, the grid recovery encountered a challenge around 10:24 a.m. on Tuesday that caused a slight setback.

“Despite this minor setback, TCN continued with the grid recovery process, which is now at an advanced stage, ensuring bulk power availability to about 90% of its substations nationwide. Power has been restored to the Abuja area and other major distribution centers across the country,” she said, noting that many regions remained without power as of 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mbah also mentioned that the partial disturbance did not impact the Ibom Gas generating station, which remained isolated from the grid and continued supplying electricity to areas in the South-South region, including Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132kV transmission substations during this period.

“An investigation into the cause of the incident will be conducted once the grid is fully restored,” she added.
