This announcement came through a statement issued early Tuesday morning by Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo.

The statement further emphasized the Minister’s congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of a spiritually enriching month. It reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.

It is noteworthy that the Federal Government had previously declared Tuesday, April 9th, and Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 as public holidays in observance of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed this announcement in a statement issued on Sunday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako.

However, the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, announced that the 2024 Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Nigeria would occur on Wednesday, April 10th, as the new crescent was not sighted in the country on Monday night.

Consequently, Muslim faithful across the country would observe the Ramadan fast on Tuesday.

The decision was based on reports from National Moon Sighting Committees nationwide, confirming the non-sighting of the new moon.

In response to this development, the federal government has declared Thursday as an additional holiday to celebrate the 2024 Eid-El-Fitr.
