Breaking News: Mining Activities Halted In Kogi! Discover The Dangerous Forces At Play

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has announced the suspension of all mining operations in the state, citing an increase in banditry and other negative activities associated with mining.

According to Naija News, the state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, revealed in an interview that this decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, which was led by Governor Ododo.

Gegu emphasized that the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources will not tolerate any form of illegal mining or infiltration into the sector. He stated, “This move is aimed at ensuring we obtain accurate mining data. A thorough cleanup of the sector will significantly reduce, if not eliminate, criminal activities.”

He added that the state would operate within regulatory guidelines and collaborate with Federal Mines Officers and security agencies to maintain order. Gegu urged all mining companies to be patient during this period, as the priority is to address security concerns.

Ododo Accused of Sheltering Yahaya Bello in Kogi Government House
In a separate development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Governor Usman Ododo of concealing his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, at the Kogi Government House. The EFCC claims that Ododo’s actions make him complicit in criminal activities, despite the immunity he holds as a sitting governor.

EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren made these allegations during an interview with Arise TV on Thursday. He also criticized Bello for failing to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, despite a court order.

Uwujaren remarked on Bello’s appearance at the EFCC headquarters on September 18, suggesting it was merely a media stunt intended to mislead the public and serve ulterior motives.
