BREAKING: Ondo State Deputy Governor Wins In Court (DETAILS)

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order preventing the Ondo State House of Assembly from impeaching the Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, based on allegations of gross misconduct.

Justice Emeka Nwite issued the ruling after Aiyedatiwa’s counsel, Kayode Adewusi, presented an ex-parte motion to that effect.

The judge also prohibited Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from nominating a new deputy governor and submitting it to the lawmakers for approval until the substantive matter is heard and determined.

Justice Nwite emphasized that, after considering Adewusi’s arguments, he believed that granting the application would serve the interests of justice. He stated, “Therefore, the application of the applicant succeeds.”

The embattled deputy governor had previously filed a motion on notice against the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services, Governor Akeredolu, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Chief Judge of Ondo State, and the House of Assembly. In this application, Aiyedatiwa sought four specific reliefs.

Additionally, the judge issued an interim injunction restraining Akeredolu, his associates, or agents from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing, or obstructing Aiyedatiwa from performing the duties of his office as deputy governor of Ondo State.

Justice Nwite granted all the reliefs and adjourned the matter until October 9 for further proceedings.

It was also reported that Aiyedatiwa filed another suit in the High Court in Akure, marked: AK/348/2023, seeking to halt the Ondo State House of Assembly from continuing with the impeachment proceedings against him until the suit filed in the court on Monday is heard and determined.
