A resident from the area has also verified the death, stating that the deceased took her own life in the presence of her one-year-old son. The resident further mentioned that the deceased worked as a medicine distributor, while her husband was employed as a taxi driver and car dealer.

In the meantime, Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, confirmed on Thursday to BBC Pidgin that the husband of the deceased has been apprehended and detained for questioning.

“He came home from the market when he saw his wife hanging with rope on her neck,

“He alerted the neighbours who followed him to the hospital where she was confirmed dead,” Nwabuzor stated.

The police spokesperson also mentioned that her body has been placed in the mortuary.

“He’s still with the police and will soon be transferred to the State CID for further investigation,” the spokesman concluded.

Olokoobi and her son, Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, gained prominence when a video of the boy pleading with his mother, saying “mummy be calming down,” went viral in 2020.

This caught the attention of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The governor commended the boy for his courage and composure during a meeting with him and his family.
