In the lead judgment delivered by Justice John Okoro, it was emphasized that the previous court had erred in deducting 165,616 votes from Governor Yusuf’s total votes.

This landmark decision by the apex court marks the conclusive resolution of legal disputes surrounding the Kano State governorship election held on March 18.

Recalling the events, in September 2023, the Kano governorship election tribunal, composed of a five-member panel, nullified Governor Yusuf’s victory and declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful governor of Kano.

Subsequently, on November 13, the Court of Appeal upheld the tribunal’s decision, citing a breach of the Electoral Law in Yusuf’s candidacy.

Unsatisfied with these outcomes, Governor Yusuf pursued justice by taking the case to the Supreme Court, seeking redress and ultimately finding resolution in the highest court of the land.
