According to Ireporter Online, United States President Donald Trump has announced that Washington will assume temporary oversight of Venezuela as the South American nation transitions toward new leadership. The declaration was made on Saturday during a press briefing following a U.S. military operation in Venezuela that reportedly led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

President Trump said the move was intended to prevent the emergence of another leadership that might not prioritize the interests of the Venezuelan people. He emphasized that the United States would not risk allowing instability or mismanagement to persist during the transition period.

The U.S. leader also criticized the state of Venezuela’s oil sector, describing it as severely mismanaged. He disclosed that American energy firms are expected to invest billions of dollars to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure, revive production, and generate revenue for the country as part of broader economic reforms.

Trump further warned that Venezuela’s political and military elites should take note of recent developments, stressing that accountability would extend beyond the former president. He declared that Venezuelans were “free again” and added that the United States had become a “safer” and “prouder” nation following the operation.

Also speaking, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth characterized the mission as a large-scale joint military and law enforcement operation that was carried out with precision. He noted that the Venezuelan leadership had been given opportunities to change course but failed to do so, leading to decisive action by the United States.
