The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the victory of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah in the March 18 governorship election, dismissing the appeal filed by the Labour Party governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga.

The court deemed the appeal lacking in merit and affirmed the judgment of the Enugu Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, delivered in September.

The three-member panel, led by Justice Tijani Yusuf Hassan, concluded that the appellant failed to provide evidence that Mbah forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and was therefore unqualified to contest the election.

This judgment follows a recent ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja that awarded N5 million in damages against the NYSC for falsely claiming that Mbah’s discharge certificate was fake.

Judge Nyang Ekwo determined that the NYSC and its Director-General were guilty of misrepresentation of material facts.
