British Deputy High Commissioner Shares First Impressions In Nigeria

The British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Jonny Baxter, expressed his positive impression of Nigeria in his first few weeks in the country.

He shared his thoughts in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Baxter, who is new to his role, described Nigerians as passionate, full of energy, and possessing an entrepreneurial spirit.

He expressed his excitement about experiencing Nigeria’s vibrant culture, food, and the warm welcome he had received from Nigerians. He also noted the entrepreneurial spirit and energy of the people he had met, which he found uplifting.

During his short time in Nigeria, Baxter visited the beach and enjoyed reading a Nigerian novel, “Jagua Nana” by Cyprian Ekwensi. He expressed his delight at the responses and suggestions he received from Nigerians after sharing his experience on social media.

Baxter also visited the Lufasi Nature Park, where he appreciated the green space and the peaceful environment it provided in a bustling city.

Regarding Nigerian cuisine, he mentioned that he had already tried Jollof rice and enjoyed it. He expressed his eagerness to explore more Nigerian dishes.

Baxter reiterated his commitment to strengthening the bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Prior to his role in Lagos, he served as the British Ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan and held various senior positions in the Department of International Development (DFID) in the UK and in other postings around the world.
