According to Ireporteronline  Fubara made this known through a statement issued on Monday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Warisenibo Joe Johnson. The governor criticized the opposition’s reaction, describing their celebration of the court’s acceptance of his appeal withdrawal as mere political propaganda.

Fubara defended the decision to withdraw the case, stating, “The appeal serves no useful purpose. With the 2024 budget cycle ending on December 31, 2024, the only logical step was to withdraw it.”

He further criticized opposition groups, calling their excitement over the withdrawal a desperate attempt to mislead the public. “The Supreme Court is an extremely busy institution. It would be unwise to burden the court with academic appeals that serve no practical purpose. That’s the appeal these urchins are celebrating,” he remarked.

The statement clarified that the Supreme Court did not rule against Governor Fubara but simply acknowledged the voluntary withdrawal of the case. “There is no Supreme Court judgment against Governor Fubara. The opposition’s claims are outdated political propaganda,” Johnson emphasized.

He reiterated that the case had no bearing on the administration, as the 2024 budget had already been fully implemented.

This development comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, particularly between Governor Fubara’s administration and lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The 2024 budget has been a focal point of contention following the strained relationship between the governor and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
