In his birthday message to Buhari, Shehu highlighted Obasanjo’s tendency to publicly call for the resignation or removal of post-election leaders, tarnishing their reputations. Shehu contrasted this with Buhari’s quiet post-presidency, noting that Buhari, since leaving office in May 2023, had kept a low profile, making only two visits to Abuja and largely staying away from the political scene.

Shehu praised Buhari for honoring his pledge to give the new administration space to stabilize and flourish, noting that the former president’s current life revolves around reading, spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoying his farm. “Buhari’s decision to stay away from Abuja has allowed the new government to operate free from distractions, an admirable trait of selflessness,” Shehu said.

In sharp contrast, Shehu pointed out that Obasanjo, after stepping down as president, has frequently criticized every leader who succeeded him, even urging them to step down in certain instances. “Since leaving office, Obasanjo has written letters to shame or disgrace every president after him, demanding their resignation or publicly questioning their leadership,” Shehu added.

Buhari’s former spokesman also commended his boss for avoiding any attempts to overshadow the current administration, emphasizing the simplicity and peace he now enjoys, far removed from the political chaos.
