Call To Bar: DG Reveals Number Of Candidates Who Passed Final Exams At Law School

During the October 2023 Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja, Professor Isa Chiroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, announced that 1,085 candidates, equivalent to 65.09 percent, successfully passed the school’s final examinations conducted in July.

Prof. Chiroma revealed this information in Abuja on Wednesday as he presented the overall performance of the candidates.

He encouraged these successful candidates to excel in the legal profession, upholding its principles and ethical standards.

The Director-General informed that out of the 1,666 students who participated in the July examinations, 1,085 emerged triumphant.

Expounding on the candidates’ performance, Prof. Chiroma emphasized that the academic and non-academic staff of the school meticulously supervised their training.

“I affirm that each and every one of them possesses the qualities of a learned individual as expected by your esteemed organization. The screening committee of your distinguished body has diligently reviewed the records of each aspirant and found them deserving of presentation for the Call to the Nigerian Bar. I can attest that they are well-suited individuals for admission to the Nigerian Bar,” stated Prof. Chiroma.

In her address, retired Justice Mary Peter-Odili, the chairman of the Body of Benchers, urged the graduates to serve the country with a commitment to justice, devoid of bias, partiality, or ill will.

Mrs. Peter-Odili encouraged the new lawyers to continuously enhance their knowledge with statutes, case laws, and to stay updated with legal opinions, which are crucial for a successful legal career. She also stressed the importance of showing respect to their seniors, strictly adhering to the profession’s dress code, and using social media responsibly to avoid tarnishing the profession’s reputation.

Suleiman Sani, a parent of one of the graduates, expressed his gratitude and described witnessing the ceremony as one of his greatest achievements. He had two daughters, both of whom had become lawyers. He considered it a divine privilege to see their success and thanked God for not letting their efforts go to waste.

Sani also offered prayers for all the graduates, wishing them successful careers, and advised them to remain appreciative of their parents’ support.
