Ombugadu Speaks On Dethroning ‘Muslim’ Traditional Rulers After Tribunal Victory Over Governor Sule
Dr. David Ombugadu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Nasarawa State governorship election, has refuted media claims suggesting he plans to depose certain traditional rulers upon assuming office.
In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. Ombugadu clarified that he has no intention of replacing Muslim traditional rulers with Christians, as alleged.

The statement was issued by Mike Omeri, the Director of the Media and Publicity Directorate of his campaign organization.

He dismissed the report as “false and malicious,” emphasizing that the notion of such a plot being hatched in a meeting in Abuja is a product of the imaginations of those spreading the false news.
Mr. Ombugadu emphasized his consistent deep respect for traditional institutions, acknowledging their crucial role in preserving the culture and heritage of the people.
He further stated his belief in maintaining harmonious relationships with all segments of society, including traditional rulers, to promote development and unity.
The statement urged the media to exercise due diligence and verify the accuracy of their sources before publishing. It stressed the importance of refraining from spreading misinformation that could be damaging to individuals’ reputations.
Mr. Ombugadu also reiterated his dedication to working for the betterment of Nasarawa State, upholding the rule of law, and fostering cooperation among all stakeholders.
The three-man Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Nasarawa State declared on October 2 that Ombugadu had won the March 18 election in the state. In a split decision of two judges to one, it ordered the removal of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and instructed INEC to issue a Certificate of Return to Ombugadu. However, Gov. Sule and the APC have indicated their intention to appeal the tribunal’s judgment.
