The military officers stormed the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) at about 7:40 a.m. and forcefully dragged journalists from a bus, subjecting them to physical assault. The attack was reportedly triggered by the disconnection of their military base from the power supply.

During the assault, the officers confiscated Olawin’s phones and a power bank while threatening to shoot him if he spoke. The soldiers also blocked access to the IKEDC office for over an hour and took engineers and drivers, forcing them to restore electricity to the barracks.

According to IKEDC’s Chief of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, the armed officers broke into offices in search of the company’s CEO, Mrs. Folake Soetan. Upon finding her, they allegedly assaulted her and forced her into the trunk of a vehicle.

The incident has raised serious concerns about military overreach and brutality.
