Unbelievable Scene At Remembrance Parade: Officers From Navy And Air Force Slump

Reports indicate that two officers, one from the Navy and another from the Air Force, collapsed during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations held in Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday. The incident occurred while they were serving as Guards of Honour, an essential part of the parade marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Week.

As per Leadership, the officers’ identities remain undisclosed, and the cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

Veteran Speaks Out on Army’s Treatment of Retirees

In a related event, Colonel Nasiru Salami, a retired civil war veteran, voiced serious concerns over the treatment of retired Nigerian Army personnel. The 76-year-old, appearing on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief program, expressed dismay at how military leadership neglects retired soldiers, especially during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day observance.

Salami, who served on the front lines of the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1970, shared his painful experience of losing his right foot during the conflict, an injury that led to amputation. Despite the setback, he courageously returned to the battlefield. Currently serving as the Secretary of the Nigerian Legion in Lagos, Salami highlighted the hardships faced by retirees and the lack of adequate support from the military.

He went on to reveal that, given the current state of the military, he would not advise his children to pursue a career in the Nigerian Army. “At this moment, I cannot recommend that any of my children join the Nigerian Army,” he stated.
