Chelsea FC midfielder Enzo Fernandez will be unavailable for the club’s upcoming matches after manager Liam Rosenior confirmed a disciplinary decision in response to the player’s recent comments about his future. The Argentine, who joined the club in January 2023 for a British record £107 million, raised uncertainty after suggesting he might not stay at Stamford Bridge following the team’s exit from the Champions League. Fernandez further fueled speculation by stating he would “like to live in Spain.”

Rosenior confirmed that Fernandez will miss Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League fixture with Manchester City on April 12. Addressing the situation, Rosenior said, “It’s disappointing for Enzo to speak that way. I have no bad words to say about him, but a line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build. As a character, a person and a player, I have the utmost respect. He’s frustrated because he wants us to be successful.”

The manager added that the decision was collective, involving ownership, sporting directors, and players, emphasizing that the door remains open for Fernandez. “It’s a sanction. You have to protect the culture, and in terms of that, a line was crossed,” Rosenior stated. Chelsea has struggled recently, suffering four consecutive defeats in March and an 8-2 aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, intensifying scrutiny on the club’s internal dynamics.
