According to a statement from the police, the latest recovery occurred on February 4, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation in the Dei-Dei area. Officers discovered the stolen covers hidden in a pit, thanks to a tip-off from a vigilant informant. This reinforces the importance of public cooperation in crime-fighting efforts.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, issued a stern warning to vandals and those involved in the illicit trade of stolen public property. He emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating infrastructure theft and dismantling criminal networks in the FCT.
“We will not relent in recovering stolen public assets. Our operatives are intensifying efforts to locate and dismantle illegal warehouses and storage sites used by vandals to stockpile stolen infrastructure. The FCT must be free from the grip of these criminal elements,” CP Disu declared.
This operation follows a significant breakthrough last week when the FCT Police, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) formed by the FCT Minister, intercepted and recovered a large cache of vandalized public infrastructure.
CP Disu commended FCT residents for their continued support and urged them to remain vigilant. He stressed that safeguarding public assets is a shared responsibility, essential for maintaining a safe and functional environment.
