Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara revealed that while serving as FCT Minister, Mohammed allegedly refused to allocate land to Wike, who was then the Minister of State for Education.

Dogara, in a statement he personally signed, detailed an encounter between the two politicians that exposed the strained relationship. He recalled that during a visit to Rivers State to solicit campaign funds for Mohammed’s governorship bid, Wike expressed his longstanding grievances.

Dogara recounted:
“As soon as Wike joined us and saw Bala Mohammed, his demeanor changed. He asked me privately, ‘Why did you bring Bala to my house without considering our history?’ He then explained that during their time in Jonathan’s cabinet, Bala allocated plots of land to all ministers except him.

“Wike also shared how Bala humiliated him when he sought approval to increase the number of floors on a building he owned in Abuja. Bala allegedly kept him waiting for hours before sneaking out of the office, leading Wike to decide never to have any dealings with him again.”

Despite these grievances, Wike eventually agreed to assist Mohammed’s campaign. Dogara recounted:
“Wike confronted Bala with these issues in our presence, and Bala admitted to them, pleading for forgiveness. Wike then provided us with the necessary funds and logistics to kickstart Bala’s campaign, even offering his private jet for our return to Abuja.”

Dogara emphasized that Wike’s generosity played a significant role in Bala Mohammed’s eventual rise to power, making the current rift between them more surprising.
