Combined Troops Neutralize ESN/IPOB Fighters In Encounter (PHOTOS)

The joint forces of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and Department of State Services (DSS) have successfully neutralized two fighters belonging to the IPOB/ESN group and arrested five others during a fierce encounter at Fuji Junction in Asaba, Delta State, which occurred on Monday, July 17, 2023.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the operation was prompted by distress calls indicating that the community was under attack by the terrorists.

In response, the combined troops swiftly acted and the terrorists were overpowered by the superior firepower of the security forces.

Two of the members of the proscribed group were killed during the intense firefight, while the remaining attackers fled to their hiding place near the Okpanam river.

The determined troops pursued the fleeing criminals and successfully tracked them to their hideout in a house around Okpanam river, where they were apprehended.

As part of the operation, the security forces seized significant weaponry, including one AK 47 Rifle, one Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, one AK 47 Rifle Magazine, and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu urged the public to continue supporting the security agencies by providing valuable information to aid their efforts in combating security challenges.

Additionally, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the combined troops for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to maintain their collaborative efforts to restore peace and tranquility in the region.
