Comedian Bakassi Offers ₦5m Bounty As ‘Player’ Allegedly Steals Eight Phones In Lagos

The comedian disclosed the development in a video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, where he recounted how the incident unfolded during their regular Wednesday evening football session.

Bakassi explained that the suspect joined the game after being welcomed by participants in what was described as an act of goodwill. However, after spending a short time on the pitch, the individual reportedly pretended to sustain an injury and moved to sit on the sidelines, a decision that later aroused suspicion.

He alleged that while attention was focused on the ongoing game, the suspect took advantage of the situation to steal multiple mobile phones belonging to players. According to him, about eight handsets were taken, all belonging to individuals whose work and daily activities heavily depend on their devices.

The matter has since been reported to the police, with investigations reportedly underway to track down the suspect. Bakassi, however, stated that certain operational details would not be disclosed publicly in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Issuing a stern warning, the comedian gave the suspect a 24-hour ultimatum to return the stolen phones, stressing that failure to do so would result in intensified efforts to apprehend him.

He also announced a financial incentive for individuals capable of assisting in tracking the devices, noting that anyone with useful information or phone-tracking expertise could contact him directly, with a ₦5 million reward available for successful recovery assistance.

Bakassi further advised members of the public to exercise caution when purchasing second-hand phones, urging buyers to demand proper identification and documentation from sellers to avoid acquiring stolen devices unknowingly.
