Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that significantly alters Nigeria’s political map. In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri announced that he, along with members of his cabinet and several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials in the state, had defected to the APC. He described the move as being in the best developmental interest of Adamawa residents.

With Adamawa now under APC control, the party governs 30 of Nigeria’s 36 states, while the PDP retains power in Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara. Anambra State continues under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abia is governed by the Labour Party, and Osun remains under the Accord Party.

The APC-led states include:

South-South (6): Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa
North-Central (6): Benue, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau
South-East (3): Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo
South-West (4): Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo
North-East (5): Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Gombe, Adamawa
North-West (6): Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kano

According to political analysts, Fintiri’s defection could strengthen APC’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections and marks a major realignment in Nigerian politics.
