In a statement endorsed by state chairpersons, these leaders accused Rabiu Kwankwaso, the founder of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, of employing the National Working Committee (NWC) to target members who opposed his leadership approach.

The signatories included party leaders from Ogun, Niger, Rivers, Katsina, Zamfara, Lagos, Oyo, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Ekiti states. These chairpersons, who had reportedly been suspended by the NWC due to alleged anti-party activities, accused Kwankwaso of exacerbating the crisis within NNPP.

They deemed their suspension an unjust use of power and an abuse of authority.

The NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Major Agbo, had announced the disbandment of party executives in seven states, citing anti-party activities. This action led to the establishment of a five-member caretaker committee to oversee the affected states’ party affairs starting from July 28, 2023.

The chairpersons argued that this dissolution contradicted the party’s constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act. They contended that Kwankwaso was actually engaged in anti-party activities by associating with candidates from other political parties in an apparent effort to gain favor.

The statement also raised concerns about procedural violations within the disciplinary committee’s proceedings. They questioned the lack of transparency in revealing the petitioners and their roles in the party, and emphasized that the unilateral expulsion of the Ogun chairman, Oginni Sunday, went against the NNPP constitution.

Calling upon Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the Founder/Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of NNPP, the chairpersons appealed for his intervention to prevent the situation from escalating into an uncontrollable crisis. They hoped that Aniebonam would invoke Section 12.5(a) of the BoT’s functions, aiming to uphold high moral standards within the party, rectify any misconduct, and reinstate victimized executives across the states to their rightful positions.
